4 reasons to build your own virtual world — rather than be in someone else’s

So you’re thinking of building a virtual world. And you might be tempted to build it inside of an existing platform. There are benefits to doing so, not least their captive audiences.

But we think for anything designed to fire up, engage and sell to your existing, distinct fan base, MSquared is a better bet. Here’s why:

1. You own your own front door — and everything else

With other platforms, you’re not in control — they are. And in relinquishing an end-to-end brand experience, your world becomes subservient to someone else’s. That’s not ideal when concerns arise about safety, privacy and reputation — or a platform faces potential bans.

Moreover, in not deciding how users discover and access your world, you’re at the mercy of how a platform prioritises where it points users and how they get there. This creates barriers to entry and unnecessary extra steps that result in lost conversions.

But at MSquared, we’re not interested in owning your virtual world. We just provide the tech and support that you need. When we say “your metaverse, your rules”, we mean it. You own your own front door — and everything else. Users. Data. Your reputation. How users reach your creations — via websites, native apps or Steam. All of it.

2. You can bring your audience with you

Other platforms might have a pre-existing audience, but it won’t be your audience. In fact, many existing metaverses are primarily used by children. And so unless your plan for some reason involves targeting an audience with low spending power, you’ll burn through cash trying to appeal to kids who may not be interested in what you have to offer — and won’t be able to buy much even if they are.

Why settle for scraps when you can build your own virtual world and cultivate an existing fanbase? They’ll be eager to dive deeper into everything you create, invite others, and potentially give your virtual world viral growth. This works best on MSquared, where fans sign up to your experience. They visit your virtual world, not someone else’s. And because you own the data, you’ll know what fans interacted with and can use that to continuously refine and iterate your virtual world to deliver the ultimate fan experience.

3. You can sell a parrot that talks

OK, that’s probably a bit specific. But the point is you can’t do that on the big existing metaverses, because they’re closed ecosystems that stifle creativity. Sure, you can probably slap a custom texture on a T-shirt, but when you want to get properly creative, you’ll hit limitations incredibly quickly. In short, you’ll have to conform to the platform owner’s rules, rather than make your own.

MSquared isn’t like that. The sky‘s the limit. We give you the tech and you do what you want with it. Build on MSquared and you use tools creators are familiar with, and decide which objects you create and how they work. Want to fill your world with talking parrots or anything else you can imagine that… isn’t a parrot? Go for it. We’re there to facilitate.

Even better, when you sell something, sales go through your economy and payment system and you keep the profits. We don’t take 30%, because we’re not monsters.

4. You can do all this at massive scale

Imagine rocking up to a stadium gig or a huge sports event, only to find yourself herded into a tiny, fenced-off pen with 99 other people, and quickly discovering you can’t interact with the majority of the crowd. That would suck — and that’s what the other lot do. MSquared? Try 15,000 people, in the same space, at the same time.

Yeah, we talk about that quite a lot, but it’s really cool to have such massive-scale, high-quality events, where everyone can interact with everyone else. And because scale is relative and our tech is flexible, affordable and efficient, we can handle smaller, more intimate gatherings too. Or groups within bigger groups.

Again, all of this is entirely in your hands. However you want to build your virtual world, MSquared gives you the building blocks. It’s entirely up to you what you do with them.

Keen to launch your own virtual world? We can provide the tech and support you need to bring your vision to life. So let’s do it!
