MSquared is ready for business. Here’s what we’re building in 2025

2025 marks a major milestone for MSquared. Over the past three years, we evolved Improbable’s tech stack into a full-fledged dev platform, and built the missing pieces needed for a true network of interconnected virtual worlds. Now we are operating as an independent company and publicly open tech platform.

This means a whole lot more:

  • Unparalleled technology that builds on the groundbreaking Morpheus Platform, which delivers massive scale and density.
  • Strategic partnerships with companies that share our vision of breaking down the barriers between virtual worlds.
  • Open access to our platform, empowering small teams to build and operate their own connected virtual worlds.
  • Unprecedented experiences powered by MSquared, such as Otherside by Yuga Labs (Bored Ape Yacht Club), MLB’s Virtual Ballpark, a BBC classical concert that took place simultaneously in physical and virtual spaces, and massive-multiplayer Twitch game Jitter.

Sounds good? Get in touch so we can help you get started. Want to know more? Let’s dig into what we stand for, and the tech, standards and partnerships shaping MSquared.

We aim to make building your own virtual worlds as easy as building on existing platforms like Roblox — and to break down the barriers between them. But we don’t want another closed platform. We believe in something far more open — an extension of the internet itself.

You should fully own your virtual worlds, host them on your domains, integrate them with your systems and digital channels, and set your own rules and economics. And these worlds shouldn’t exist in isolation, but should connect to a wider network of experiences where users and objects move freely.

To make this a reality, we are:

  • Empowering creators and small teams, by giving them the building blocks they need to create and operate their own virtual worlds with ease.
  • Developing an open protocol that advances interoperability, ensuring virtual worlds can seamlessly connect with compatible experiences and content.
  • Launching groundbreaking virtual events with partners to prove out the capabilities of our tech and the vast potential of the protocol.

MSquared products: drastically reduce the cost and risk of building virtual worlds

You might be aware of powerful virtual world creation tools like UEFN and Roblox, which let small teams build quickly. But they also dictate the rules of engagement and prevent integration with your own systems. This limits your choices and what you can achieve.

We believe businesses and creators should fully own their virtual worlds. They should seamlessly integrate with your websites, apps, accounts and commercial systems, as an extension of your existing digital estate.

Historically, this required building from scratch using Unreal or Unity — a costly, risky endeavor orders of magnitude more complex than building a website. MSquared changes all that, making building virtual worlds as easy as with Roblox or UEFN — while you keep full control.

MSquared protocol: break down the barriers between virtual worlds

In the physical world, items gain value through being used in different contexts — a concert T-shirt later worn at a baseball game. Similarly, we believe virtual goods should work seamlessly across entirely distinct virtual worlds.

Interoperable 3D formats and NFTs were a first step, but we need more. MSquared’s protocol aims to achieve this, by combining the best open standards, frameworks like MML that enable virtual objects to carry interactivity, identity, behavior and utility across different environments, and new systems for asset moderation and ownership.

This takes interoperability beyond the merely cosmetic, and allows businesses to enable users to bring their own virtual items into a world — with appropriate moderation tools and guaranteed compatibility and performance.

MSquared-powered events: differentiated virtual worlds that stand out

We’ve launched groundbreaking virtual experiences with key early partners like Major League Baseball, Yuga Labs (Bored Ape Yacht Club) and the BBC. The result: amazing live-streamed sports events, unique virtual concerts, and a world-record FPS in the shape of Otherside Project Dragon. The largest event hosted over 7,000 concurrent users, who could all see, hear and interact with each other.

Each event was distinct — a critical advantage in an increasingly competitive virtual world landscape where brands and studios need unique capabilities to stand out and engage audiences. But these projects didn’t exist in isolation either, due to being part of our network of interconnected experiences, which now holds over 1.2 million virtual objects, including a significant portion of NFT market capitalization and hundreds of thousands of more typical digital avatars.

Now MSquared is operating as a fully independent entity, with a proven platform and protocols, we’re keen to expand this network further by engaging with more partners across sports, music, web3, and culture.

What MSquared is building in 2025

So how are all these amazing experiences made? Here are some key capabilities studios and devs are using on a daily basis to power their virtual worlds:

Morpheus Platform: massive-scale, high-fidelity virtual worlds and events

Our secret ingredient that powers massive-scale, high-quality experiences, Morpheus supports thousands of people in the same virtual world or event, at the same time, with next-gen visuals and spatial audio — on any device.

It’s cost-effective and easy to use. Small teams can use visual scripting within a supercharged version of Unreal Engine 5 to quickly build and launch amazing virtual experiences, while retaining full control over their users, economy, data, and access. In short: your metaverse, your rules.

Web Worlds: instant-on browser based community experiences

Web Worlds let you create instant-on 3D worlds that run in any browser, complete with user chat, custom avatars, and custom auth. Built on open-source tech, they’re easy to create and embed.

MML Object support allows you to quickly shape your world and fashion visually rich 3D social spaces or community experiences tailored to your exact needs. And you needn’t worry about infra either: Web Worlds launch instantly and scale automatically. It’s a cost-effective, hassle-free experience that just works.

MML Objects: interoperable 3D building blocks for virtual worlds

We’re committed to empowering virtual worlds creators with open source tools. MML is to virtual worlds what HTML is to web pages. It powers MML Objects, scriptable, serverless, dynamic, ‘work anywhere’ 3D building blocks for virtual worlds.

Developers can create with familiar tools, and we make it easy to host — ship us your code and we’ll give you an instantly available address, so your MML Object is available to your project and users, anytime and anywhere. And because the HTML and JavaScript logic runs on a separate server from the virtual world, your objects can be interoperable across multiple game engines and form factors.

The MSquared Asset Network: a trusted, brand-safe ecosystem

Interoperability cannot be the ‘Wild West’ where anything goes. Businesses need brand trust, not unpredictable landscapes. We’re developing the tech and legal framework to allow real IP to interoperate between experiences — with major brands in mind.

MSquared will be a trusted counterparty, taking liability for ensuring assets are properly moderated. This rigorous approach makes the dream of interoperability a practical reality, addressing tech, legal and commercial needs, and will bring peace of mind to creators building on MSquared, knowing they’re part of a moderated, safe and compliant network.

Open standards and blockchain: making real a decentralized metaverse

We continue to actively shape the future of virtual worlds by creating and defining new open standards, and advocating for a decentralized metaverse. One initiative is a new type of delegation — which means solving interoperability in a safe and good way in Web3. To achieve this, we’re collaborating with the best brand in Web3, Yuga Labs, and the most prolific, secure ownership system, Delegate.xyz.

Blockchain is another essential pragmatic component of decentralization. We see Somnia as a big part of this story. Its unique blockchain — the fastest for mass consumer applications — will be our default, and we’re forging a deep partnership with Somnia to develop next-gen platform products leveraging this powerful blockchain.

Help us build the future of virtual worlds

We’re super excited about what’s to come in 2025. It’s going to be a wild ride, packed with cutting-edge innovative tech, new industry standards, significant partnerships, and unprecedented groundbreaking immersive eventsbrand experiences, and virtual worlds, all powered by MSquared.

Our streamlined approach will empower a generation of startups and studios to quickly and easily create virtual worlds they own — and that build value together by being part of an interoperable network. There’s never been a better time to create your own virtual event or experience on the open metaverse.

Please get in touch today and we’ll give you the building blocks and support you need to bring your vision to life and create a virtual world that’s truly your own.
